Life Science history of Trau family

The Trau family has almost 200 Years of “Life-Science” history. After years of hard study and work as a “trainee” in different pharmacies Pharmacist Trau founded the Trau’sche Apotheke in Selters (www.stadt-selters-westerwald.de), Westerwald, Germany in the year 1818. Since then we are operating and maintaining a laboratory. In our Family “mini museum” we are displaying pharmaceutical laboratory instruments, balances, storage bottles, documents, images and more used in our pharmacy in the last 200 years. Also we have a library of pharmaceutical books and encyclopedias, containing a hand written drug preparation book from the 16th century. The Pharmacy building and laboratory was upgraded several times over the centuries.

The oldest parts of the building are probably 300 years old. It is built in the ancient technology of timber framed construction (Fachwerkhaus) on a fundament of solid stones. The armorial bearings at the oriel of the Pharmacy building are bearing the origin of the Trau family. The pictures showing the Pharmacy building on a postcard from the year ~1920, at this time the direct telephone line contains only three digits “178”.

The photograph is showing Pharmacist Fridrich Wilhelm Trau at work in the Trau’sche Apotheke at ~1910. The Pharmacy is still in operation, currently by Pharmacist Fridtjof Trau; the interior today looks almost similar to the picture above.
