Process to fabricate continuous micro-yarn made out of nanofibers

Nanofiber yarn production Single micro-yarn with good mechanical properties that elute different drugs and proteins. This is one combination made possible with this new technology. Several strands of nanofibers each with its own unique property or function can be drawn together to form a single micro-yarn. The production of yarn is continuous and its length is only limited by the amount of raw materials available.

Distinct advantages
  • Possibility of fabricating single yarn containing nanofibers with different property
  • Able to spin continuous yarn
  • Fibers that formed the yarn are well aligned
  • Great variety of polymers that can be used
Materials that have been successfully spun into yarn

Biodegradable:
  • PLGA
  • PCL
  • PCL/collagen blend
  • PLA/collagen blend
Non-biodegradable:
  • PVDF
  • PVDF-co-HFP
Nanofiber yarn
Current rate of production : 80 m/min

Possible applications
  • Suture
  • Ligament replacement
  • High performance / functional fabric
