Yuan Jun

 

Yuan Jun received his B. Eng (Bioengineering) from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He joined the µTE lab as a research engineer after three years of working in the process industry.
He is currently working on the scaling up of the Micro-engineered Human Embryo model into a 96-well plate format, for in vitro developmental toxicity screening.
His previous research experience includes a project on characterizing the direct electron transfer property of novel titanium dioxide nanomaterials and investigation of their application on third-generation glucose biosensors.

Julia Zhu

Julia joined the µTE lab as a post-doctorate. Julia ZHU Liang has completed her Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Bioengineering from National University of Singapore and graduated with B.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering from Southeast University, China. She is now working as a Research Associate in the Micro-tissue engineering (uTE) lab.
Julia’s research interest is on developing an personalized chemotherapeutic drug testing platform based on patient-derived tumor tissues and cell lines. Utilizing microfluidic 3D culture device, she aims to culture the primary and metastaltic tumor tissue from patient and test the efficacy and dosage of the drug to treat the cancer of this patient. She is also helping SINAPSE to set up the confocal microscopy laboratory to serve the institute-wide users.
Her previous research was continuously focused on Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering – Her PhD publications are on developing scalable bioreactors/arrays to apply compaction on in vitro cultured hepatocytes in long term so as to faciliate drug testing applications.  Her PhD thesis also includes the stem cell differentiation and maturation into hepatocytes on scaffolds/substrates with tunable rigidities. Her MSc project is on developing a microfluidic cell sorter based on acoustic standing wave for focusing and sorting purpose. She also has a research experience in in vitro diagnosis (IVD) based on DNA/RNA testing – On-chip qPCR analysis of infectious diseases such as Dengue fever, influenza, tuberculosis (TB) etc. and DNA microarray testing of hotspot mutations in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) patients.
